Hello Leanne
This is kind of a nutrition and sleep question! My baby is 16 weeks old and up until a week ago he was sleeping 8 or more hours. Now he is waking at 10.30pm (which we ignore) 12.30am, 3.30am then 7am just about on the dot! He is breastfed and gets one formula feed between 6.30 and 7.30 before he goes down for the night. He was getting 200mls but of late we have been giving him 250ml because we thought he was hungry but that obviously isn`t working! And now also beginning to wonder if we are giving him a tummyache because he is a bit of a guts. He sleeps well during the day, if only it was the other way round! He`s always had a top up of formula (Karicare)and his bowel movements haven`t been that great with this either. I have been told to maybe try another formula? (SMA?)In the last month he has also been full of excema but we have got on top of this and at it`s worse it was not affecting his sleeping.
Could it be possible that he is maybe teething? Is there anything that I can do to help him? He is dribbling an awful lot!
Sorry so many questions for first time mum!
Thanks for your time and I appreciate any feedback
It is reasonably common that formula can lead to eczema, you may find going off it or changing to a low lactose or a hydrolysed formula could help. I did find a great cream by Brauer for eczema, it has been fantastic. Teething can affect babies in many ways, some feed more, some less, some beginning waking often, dribbling and so on. Teething rings can be helpful with cool water, as bub is still a bit young for solids there isnt too much else to help with it. They generally settle down (until the next one rears its head, sorry).
Perhaps just one change at a time, that way you will know if something has worked of if it has caused a problem, also it is less upset for baby too.
What about an expressed feed for a while if you want to get back to a less unsettled tummy and skin and then go from there?
All the best with it, first time around can be very confusing, sounds to me as though you are going just great.
Leanne
