Hi Leanne,
I was wondering at what age should I introduce my son to meat and how should I do it. He is 6.5 months old and the health nurse said that I should be giving him both red and white meat. He eats three meals a day with BF aswell and eats really well. Thanks in advance, Leonie
Usually around 7ish months you can start to offer fish, it is a little easier to digest and has the added advantages of those lovely fish oils and lots of calcium from the mashed bones. An ideal way to start is with a good quality tinned fish, for example salmon (with bones and in water with no additives). You can add a teaspoon to one of his meals for three days to check how it sits with him. Then you can graduate to white meat, again a little easier to digest, so finely chopped or minced chicken or turkey and around 8ish months move onto red meats in the same one.
One nice tip is to use a feeding mesh for chewy bits of meat, it is safe and they can chomp away on the meat as a trial.
I have some tip sheets on Huggies on starting solids and also a book if you wanted to read a little more about what foods when, the links are:
Solids
Which foods when and fridge chart
All the best,
Leanne
