My son has just turned 6 months and has been on solids for 2.5 weeks now. For the first week I gave him baby rice for breakfast but I am now giving him his baby rice mixed with apple and oatmeal (brought baby food). He will normally eat around 3 tablespoons of this. The only other solids I am giving him are about 1.5 hrs before bed, a mixture of potato, carrot and pumpkin; one ice cube of each. He then has about half a small jar of fruit for pudding.
My son weighs 7.8kg and has quiet chubby arms and legs. My partner thinks I am overfeeding him; what do you think?
I am continuing to breastfeed him at around 4 hourly intervals.
Thanks
Well it sounds to me as though you are both going fabulously, well done! That you are breastfeeding will strongly help him with his body weight in itself, breastfed bubs tend to have better self-regulation and generally this helps with food intake later. He is eating a good diet of varied foods and obviously enjoying them, so another tick. And he is chunky, another tick, its great for bubs to have extra body fat, so they should as breastmilk is about 54% fat, obviously this is normal for them. Breastfed bubs tend to be leaner so you have done really well with your feeding!
About my only note would be to watch out for the sweeter foods, they tend to get a penchant for sweet tastes and it can make veggies less accepted.
So it sounds just dandy to me!
Hope that helps.
All the best,
Leanne
